Joanne Laessig is a Cleveland Heights native with 14 years of Ursuline Education. Educated as an art teacher, she came to the Cathedral in 2004, part time, while also running a middle school Fine Arts Camp at her alma mater, Beaumont School. She stayed on at St. John's after a decade of summers teaching girls. She uses her love of teaching, history, and art in how she manages and fine tunes the Cathedral Tours. Working with volunteer tour docents, she schedules tours, adapts materials for specific groups, and researches information to keep the tours interesting in a factual way.
You’ll find her answering the phone and the door in the Rectory Office, and assisting in whatever capacity is necessary. Much work is based on knowing who is responsible for what, how to do things, or where to find information that is requested. Paperwork and scheduling are now her main jobs: weekly bulletins and schedules, monthly long term schedules, yearly Mass Book, certificates, record keeping, seasonal mailings, reminders, and lots and lots of hand written sacramental records.
