Carolyn Apperson is the Parish Catechetical Leader for the Cathedral Parish. She joined the Cathedral in 2004 as a volunteer to design and implement the First Reconciliation and First Eucharist programs to prepare our children for these sacraments. In 2005, she expanded her ministry to include the Cathedral’s Parish Home School of Religion (PHSR) program for Kindergarten through 8th grade. In 2009, she became part-time and her ministry expanded to include preparation for both teen and adult confirmation as well as the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA), Rite of Christian Initiation for Children (RCIC), and Adult Faith Formation.
In December 2006, the Diocese of Cleveland certified her as a Lay Ecclesial Minister, and in 2021, she completed her Doctor of Ministry degree from Saint Mary Seminary Graduate School of Theology in Wickliffe, Ohio. She also has a Master Catechist Certificate from the Diocese of Cleveland and a certificate from the Autism Certification Center for the Many Faces of Autism.
