Human Trafficking - This Sunday, the Social Action Ministry begins brief series on the subject of Human Trafficking:
DEFINITION: Human trafficking is the recruitment, harboring, transportation, provision, or obtaining of a person for either commercial sex, for labor, or for services through the methods of force, fraud, or coercion. Source: Federal Law (Trafficking Victims Protection Act) of 2000.
Some Facts: There are an estimated 20.9 million victims of human trafficking globally
• 68% of them are trapped in forced labor
• 26% of them are children
• 55% of them are women and girls
Globally, an estimated 4.5 million people are trapped in forced sexual exploitation.
In 2015, it was estimated that 1 out of 5 endangered runaways reported to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children were likely victims of child sex trafficking.
