Holy Orders
The Roman Catholic Church is a manifestation of the Kingdom of God on earth consisting of the followers of Jesus Christ born in Baptism, formed by God’s Word, and fed at the Eucharistic table. As the Scriptures prescribe, the Body of Christ consists of Head and Members. We recognize Jesus Christ as the Head in our ordained brothers; Bishops, Presbyters, and Deacons. Men from among the lay faithful are ordained to serve in these ministries and to fulfill this office - that of Christ among us. Certain roles and functions within the Body of Christ are reserved to the ordained members as they represent Christ the High Priest in our midst. Married and celibate men over 35 years of age are considered as candidates for the diaconate. Celibate men over the age of 25 are considered candidates for the priesthood. The Pope calls forth from among the ordained presybters those to be ordained as bishop.
