Social Justice Ministry Listed below are a number of resources and ideas that you might use to extend the hand of Christ in service to the needy. Lecture Series On-Line: Catholic Relief Services - Are you being called to live your faith overseas? Catholic Relief Services will begin placing volunteers overseas beginning August 2005. The goal of this Volunteer Program is for Us. Catholics to live in solidarity with the world's poor by sharing their skills. Volunteers make a full-time two-year commitment; 18 months overseas and 6 months in the US. Apply on-line at <www.crs.org> Seeds of Literacy - More than 85 million adults in the US have low literacy skills. You can help! Volunteer tutors are always needed, so please consider joining this effort. The Bishop Cosgrove Center on 18th & Superior offers a wide variety of opportunities to volunteer: preparing & serving breakfast and lunch, gardening, literacy programs, stocking pantry shelves, and packing food bags. Any specialized service is also welcome, such as “entertaining”, help in resume writing, or any unique area with which you are familiar. Couches, gas stoves, refrigerators, dressers, end tables, washers and dryers, cribs, baby items, coffee tables, and televisions are needed. The St. Malachi Center furniture ministry provides these gently used items to needy families. Womankind - The Womankind Maternal and Prenatal Care Center, at 5400 Transportation Blvd. in Garfield Hts., is in urgent need of volunteers to assist in providing support services to expectant moms.
